You can't beat champagne when it's time to celebrate!
We've got some cracking boutique fizz on our shelves, below are some details about our current selection.
Pierre Paillard - wonderful and great value entry-level Champagne for only £24. Fairly light in style, with a 60/40 blend of pinot noir and chardonnay grapes from the 2008 and 2009 vintages.
Champagne Geoffoy 'Expression'. This genuinely competes with Bollinger NV; yeasty, with a fantastic nose and palate. At only £25 it represents teriffic value. Its a blend of the '09 and '10 vintages and is 50% pinot meunier, 40% pinot noir and 10% chardy.
Pierre Moncuit Brut - this one's a real winner. 100% Chardonnay, full of flavour and a little spicy on the finish. £27
Bollinger NV. For when nothing else will do! £42
Champagne Geoffroy Rose de Saignee, floral and honeyed, fantastic with a soft cheese like camembert. Perfect for summer and only £32
Pierre Moncuit Brut Millesime 2004. If you know and love Bollinger's La Grande Annee then give this a try. At just £50 a bottle this is seriously good value for a vintage; toasted brioche and a slight sweetness combine to make for an excellent special occassion drink.
Champagne Geoffroy Extra Brut Millesime 2004. Toast, butter, vanilla. Rich and smooth. What more could you want? A cracking vintage champagne for only £60
Our sparkling wines from around the world:
England - Shawsgate Brut 2004 and Brut Rose 2008. Framlingham's very own fizz! Surprising and delicious and only £22 per bottle
Canada - Peller Estates Ice Cuvee. Yes, the Canadians make wine too and it really is different. Sparkling wine enhanced with a dosage of Icewine. This is undeniably sweet, and makes for a perfect aperitif (£23)
Australia - d'Arenberg DADD. Exceptional sparkling wine from this great Australian producer with a sense of humour (£23)
Massard Cava Brut Nature (£11.50). Great value and full of flavour. On the sweeter end of the Cava spectrum.
Torello Brut (£14.50) a superb premium Cava. Dry and with hints of brioche.
Vanzella Per Esempio Vino Spumante (£9). Great value rose fizz from a former tour de France yellow jersey wearer!
Scandolera DOC Prosecco (£10). Smooth and easy drinking Prosecco which was all the rage in the Soho Theatre Bar where I first came across it. None of the synthetic 'pear drop' taste one associates with inferior Proseccos here!
Costadila Organic (£12.50). Actually this is a non-sparkling Prosecco. Unfiltered, authentic with a real rural flavour, almost like a perry or cider from Somerset! Must be consumed chilled.
Garbara DOCG Valdobbiadene (£13). Another step up. From grapes grown in what is widely regarded as the best Prosecco region in Italy.
